Ulfric Stormcloak has evaded Imperial capture and is loose to continue the civil war which is tearing Skyrim apart.
Dragons have returned for the first time since the Merethic Era.
All in all, Skyrim is not the most peaceful place to live in these times. It is a hard and rugged land at the best of times and now it seems like nearly everything is out to kill you. Still, you must do what you can to simply live your life in the cold reaches of Tamriel's far north. Be it running a stall in one of the nine cities within the province, joining up with the legendary Companions to win fortune and glory, studying at the College of Winterhold, picking pockets and stealing jewels, or being the hand that enforces the Night Mother's will, there are many paths open in this land.
The unbroken road lies ahead for those brave enough to travel it.
What if the Dragonborn never existed or mysteriously vanished before their destiny could be revealed? How would the land of Skyrim cope with dragons, a civil war, and genocidal elves all fighting over what remained of the land? Who would step up to save the world from Alduin, the vampire lord Harkon, Miraak?
Skyrim needs heroes and it's up to you to help save the world.
