God knows how long they were watched.
Tabs was ungainly on land - you would be too if you had three legs - but in the air that was entirely different. The abomination could move with the grace of a ribbon flowing through the wind, utterly silent as long as he avoided brushing anything. The thing was he could only float so high above a large surface. But he could get plenty high to be in the tree canopy. It was tedious, avoiding branches, but there was something relaxing about it. It occupied his mind and gave him something to do rather than just listen.
But listening time was over. Tabs had done plenty of watching and listening from a distance, ages of it in fact. He came to the planet for interaction. And really, this was a lot more preferable for first contact than coming to any of the factions directly -- too biased, them.
Banking suddenly upward, he let the length of his back and tail slide against the underside of a limb, creating a slithering noise. Long claws sliced the bark of the branch below him like butter, creating ribbons of displaced wood as he closed his grasp. Stopped, now that his arms had a grip, he hovered, vaguely drifting from side-to-side as if underwater. Tabs chose a spot to rest. There was a gap in the leaves to see from, so he could look down. He knew elevation would be a key advantage should these other beings get… judgy, let’s say.
The four monitors at the front of his face had been black in order to avoid detection. They flicked on to a vaguely blue bright glow. Greenish grins curled and eight red eyes came into focus.
“Don’t let little old me interrupt,” vaguely masculine voice taunted, knowing full well the irony.
He adjusted himself, folding one leg over the other, then another over that one. One elbow leaned onto the branch below while the claws of his opposite hand drummed. Smiles faded as he lowered his lids, anticipating the inevitable reaction.
