Once Varian had what he guessed was Lorelei's willingness to go along with the plan, he smiled and nodded back at her. Then he turned his attention to where the chemicals he'd made were and opened up the orb. The next step was simple science.
"Okay. Assuming that the glass is thick enough, in theory it should be enough to contain a small chemical reaction from the Flynnolium and... let's just call it blitzerium or something. I never did give it a name," Varian said. "Provided that we just use a tiny drop of the blitzerium and a small amount of the Flynnolium. My hypothesis? There will be a small blast upon impact with the floor when the ball is thrown. Now? The experiment." First, he took a small dropper and retrieved a limited amount of the Flynnolium. On its own, the chemical wasn't dangerous. It needed to have that small bit of the blitzerium introduced to it to really make sparks fly, no pun intended. Once he had the Flynnolium, Varian carefully transferred it to the glass orb.
Next, he took that same dropper, cleaned it, and took a single drop from the vial containing the blitzerium. Just to be on the extra safe side, for he didn't want to accidentally hurt Lorelei, he took several steps away and prepared himself. Blue eyes were squinted and his tongue snuck out of his mouth as he squeaked the dropper and watched the red drop of chemicals head toward the small pool of green chemicals. It landed with a soft plop, and mere seconds after it happened he saw the chemicals starting to bubble. That was the signal for him to close the orb and get ready to throw it. As soon as the lid was on, the orb started to get warmer. Yet, it wasn't exploding. An excited laugh followed.
"Okay! It's containing it!" Varian exclaimed. "Now..." He took careful aim, one step forward, and threw the orb toward his testing area. It flew through the air in a single arch, going as far out of the way of him and Lorelei as he could get it, before hitting the floor. The orb shattered on impact and was accompanied by what could only be described as a miniature explosion. So small scale, Varian noted, that it did little more than leave a mark on the floor.
...He'd wanted her to carry that. Okay, Varian noted. That would be one mix he did not want birds carrying. Or anyone who wasn't mentally prepared to carry some potent chemicals. There was a moment of celebration, then hurried note scribbling.
"Conclusion? The experiment was a success! And... we learned that living things probably... no. Definitely shouldn't carry those chemicals mixed together unless they really know what they're doing. Pretty impressive, though, right??"
