His eyes are bright blue, he has freckles strewn about the bridge of his nose and under his eyes, and he has buck teeth. Usually can be seen wearing clothing suited for either alchemy or engineering, which includes goggles. the personality overall personality • Determined, intelligent, vengeful, clumsy, talkative, creative, and driven. Varian will usually not rest until he achieves his goals, no matter who stands in his way. He isn't afraid to turn against those he called friends, but will maintain loyalty toward those who support him. the history overall history • From the start, Varian was seen as the screwup in the little village he called home. He always had an interest in trying to better the place he called home, but it often led to accidents that damaged the village more than helped it. His only supporters were his father and his raccoon companion Ruddiger, but even his father grew disappointed in his son after a time. All Varian wanted to do was make his dad proud and do good for the village. Alas, the chance didn't ever really seem to come until Rapunzel and her handmaiden Cassandra more or less fell into his lap. When presented with the chance to try and figure out why Rapunzel's hair had suddenly grown back, Varian set to work running tests on her. Inevitably, though, something did go wrong in the form of another device he'd made threatening the village. Varian had set up machinery under the village to allow them to have hot water, but them reaching critical mass resulted in earthquakes destroying the village after Varian finished running tests on Rapunzel. He and she became friends, and for a while things seemed all right. Once again, a wrench was thrown into his life by something he couldn't stop. Pointed unbreakable rocks suddenly started to spread all through Old Corona, destroying the village in its wake. When he and his father failed to get help from Rapunzel's father, who Varian's father blatantly lied to, Varian tried to study them rocks himself. He was trying to figure out how to prevent them from destroying any more than they already had. When he accidentally spilled chemicals on them during another test, it set off a reaction that created a sort of amber crystal that trapped his father. Varian ran to Rapunzel for help, who was queen of Corona for the day, but she refused to assist him in favor of focusing on Corona's own issues. When Varian returned to where he'd left his father, he found him completely trapped. That was when Varian swore revenge on Rapunzel for her inability to help. He later used Rapunzel to lead him to where the flower that gave her her powers was, and he took it. When discovering the flower no longer had the power and that Rapunzel held it, Varian only became more determined than ever to get his revenge. In an elaborate plan to make Rapunzel suffer as he did, Varian kidnapped Queen Arianna and held her ransom. He used this to lure Rapunzel to him and tried to force her to use her hair's power to free his father. It didn't work, though. A battle ensued in which Varian fought with his automatons, and he almost crushed Cassandra and Arianna with the one he controlled. Ultimately, though, Rapunzel stopped him and he was arrested for his actions. For a time, he and Ruddiger were locked up. Word of the war was not hard to miss, even for a prisoner, and Varian knew he could use this as his chance for true revenge. It took some doing, but Varian managed to trick one of the newer guards into releasing him and made his escape. As soon as he and Ruddiger were free, Varian knew where he needed to go. He'd heard of the Cursed Thorns, and realizing they could use a mind as bright as his?
