Gritspear the basics The Dusty Devil of Falcon Harbor• nicknames • Dusty Devil, dirt dweller, desert demon, sneaky serpent age • 20 primary standing • Unaffiliated secondary standing • N/A faction • None species • Tidal Class, Sand Wraith gender • Male sexuality •Straight the appearance origin • How to Train Your Dragon height and weight • 26 ft long, 1490 lbs overall appearance • Sand Wraith’s are distantly related to the Furies and Snow Wraiths. Most of a Sand Wraith’s structure is flat and four-legged, like a Fury, though it is slightly broader and it’s legs are stockier and less mammalian, more like the Snow Wraith. Also unlike a Fury, a Sand Wraith is ferociously pointed, harder, and covered in ridges of spines and sharp spikes. Instead of the rounded maw of a Fury, or the triangular one of a Snow Wraith, the Sand Wraith’s jaws and indeed, it’s whole head, are shaped like an arrowhead, which matches it’s peculiar tail. Sand Wraiths have no tail fins until they reach Titan size, and instead sport front and rear facing spines on the ends of their tails. Their wings are less flexible than a Fury’s, built more like fins. Their bodies are able to flatten out or compact, like a lizard’s, to glide through sand. Gritspear is entirely average in terms of his species, a golden-red brown all over with more brightly colored tones of amber that show up best against his extremities: whether these are his feet or wing tips or spines, they are tones to a brown almost black. Like all Sand Wraiths, this also masks his eyes under thorny brows. He has prominent fangs and light lime eyes. Gritspear’s defining trait is the scarring along his blunt snout. the personality likes • Sunbathing, digging, and dominating other animals. dislikes • Humans, the Hidden World of Dragons, authority, and flying. strengths • Die-hard fighter, natural camouflage, natural weapons (claws, teeth, armor, firepower ((Sand Wraiths spit hot grit))) weaknesses • Recklessly aggressive and defensive, obsessive, possessive, and crueler than the average predator. Suspicious and bitter. dreams • To have a mate and safety from all strange creatures. fears • Flying, humans, arrows. overall personality • Gritspear was once an instinct-driven, sociable Sand Wraith. Like most of his breed, he hunted in a pack in the wild beaches of the Barbaric Archipelago, and so got along with his own version of family. The only prevailing trait of this portion of his life is dogged loyalty to anything he might trust. Since his experience at the hands of Dragon Hunters in the Dragon Fighting Arena, Gritspear is a moody, needlessly aggressive, suspicious beast who’s only aim is to be left alone. When he is interrupted in this goal, he is not content to take the ‘flight’ approach, but charges anything that crosses his path as blindly as a rampaging mother bear. The difference is, Gritspear has nothing to protect. He lives with a chip on his dragonly shoulder, living by two laws: freedom and dominating anything he thinks is a threat to that freedom. Gritspear’s understanding of how to socialize in a hierarchy, as most dragons (and especially those from the Hidden World) do was crippled by his experience in the Dragon Fighting Arena. Now he not only does not trust humans, he blindly attacks dragons. His single experience with the Hidden World was stressful and infuriating for him; he does not understand how to submit to any sort of pecking order, and so all Dragon relationships end in a fight. the history father • Unnamed wild Sand Wraith, deceased mother • Unnamed female Sand Wraith, deceased siblings • Unnamed two females and two males, deceased. important people • Hiccup Haddock, Toothless, Light Fury overall history • Gritspear was given his name by a band of Dragon Hunters working for Vigo Grimborn. He lived a normal Sand Wraith’s life, learning camouflage under the beach sands of Falcon Island beach in the Barbaric Archipelago’s wilds and hunting with the family pack he was hatched into until they captured him. Gritspear was once a social dragon, so he began in confusion and fear when he was thrown into the Dragon Hunters’ arena. But as they trained him to fear and attack other dragons for their entertainment, they essentially beat the potential for empathy out of Gritspear. Being a lethal breed in the Tidal Class, he was trained quickly and became one of the top contenders. He was aggressive and hateful toward his handlers, but through abuse they kept him quiet enough. He learned to take his rage and humiliation out on the dragons they pit him up against. Gritspear was undefeated until Ryker found a Triple Stryke dragon. It’s abilities were too much for the champion Sand Wraith, and he was further humiliated. When Ryker caught a teenaged Hiccup Haddock and Toothless the Night Fury, the Sand Wraith was avenged. The Triple Stryke was defeated, but Toothless did not kill it. Instead, he and Hiccup broke free from the Arena and essentially destroyed the dragon fighting and freed the captive contenders. Gritspear was included in this, but he loathed humans, and could not fly after the other dragons if he had wanted to. He’d been removed from his family too early, and from the skies for too long, to feel comfortable in the air. Instead, as soon as his chains were loosed by the Dragon Riders of Berk, Gritspear burrowed away. He was unable to find his family, and instead came upon their remains around Falcon Beach. They’d been killed by something. Gritspear was too angry to mourn. He was roaming the newly Merged Worlds and fighting anything that challenged him when he was snared in a trap set by the Cursed Thorns. Gritspear fought to free himself until he was exhausted and hung, a defeated, massive lump, in a net. He had no strength to defend himself when something approached the trap, but hissed all the same...until he realized that it was not a human, but a dragon. A highly mystifying breed he did not have the vocabulary to call a Light Fury saw Gritspear’s plight. She freed him. This was behavior Gritspear did not understand. He would have responded to his lack of understanding by attacking—his answer to everything—but was so weak that he was forced to face the surprising reality that was this Light Fury. She was not only attractive, but weirdly empathetic in a way that reminded Gritspear of his faded family memories from before the humans scarred him. Gritspear proceeded to doggedly, gruffly, awkwardly, follow the Light Fury back to the Hidden World. Here, he was expected to endure the usual sniffing and displays of dominance from bigger or more authoritative dragons in the culture of command. But Gritspear had long since lost his ability to understand and empathize with other dragons. He lashed out aggressively at the first Gronkle that made advances and was practically chased out of the Hidden World. He was too confused and riled up to want to return, and instead began haunting the Merged Worlds in the area, only willing to socialize with the Light Fury if she ever visited. In the back of his spiked head he intends to make her his mate, but his stunted social development will not allow Gritspear to fully realize this idea. the Role play sample the role player alias • Spot age • 23 pronouns • She how did you find us? • MY FRIENDSSS!! other characters • if any |
