(ooc: January 11th, around noon. Open to anyone who would be in the Outlands. Izzy)
One would think that returning to the Outlands would be the last thing Nia would want to do, but her paws had carried her that way regardless. Her stomach was empty, her hopes were as low as dirt, and memories of what she had lost were coming in as strong as ever as she padded forward. Yet she still kept walking. As far as Nia could tell, there weren't any hyenas about to ruin her day. Maybe she could sneak a meal and go on about her day. She could hope for that much, she told herself, but that didn't mean her hopes would skyrocket any time soon. Especially not when it didn't look like any mice were about. She also was having to stay as far away from any thorns as she could. The place was overrun with them, though, so... that was proving tricky. Still, she managed as best she could.
A moment more passed before something caught Nia's attention. There was a faint cream colored something snuffling about the rocks near her. A mouse? Hope started to hover up within her, and on instinct Nia crouched down and waited. Sure enough, it was a little mouse that she'd spotted. Violet eyes were wide as the sun and her tongue flicked out of her mouth to lap against her jaws. It was such a small morsel, Nia knew, but it was better than nothing.
Right as the mouse stopped moving, Nia made her move. She leaped, aiming to land atop the mouse, but her timing was off. The mouse made a run for it and Nia was left to land atop the stones. No!
"Stop! Come back!" Nia begged. She scrambled to get to her feet and scraped her claws against the stones in a desperate attempt to chase her prey. That only slowed her down. As she started to gain some traction, the rodent darted up another rock formation and headed to safety. Nia couldn't lose this catch! It was what seemed to be her only chance at food right then! Desperate, Nia bolted after the rodent and made her best effort to swipe at it with her claws. Alas, it was not meant to be. The mouse made it to the safety of a small hole. As a result, Nia was left to skid to a stop and crash against the rocky wall.
"No..." Nia whined. Her ears pined back against her skull as sorrow filled her eyes. What was she to do now? She hadn't seen any other prey about. Was it a sign? Nia wondered if she should just take the chance and leave while she still had a shred of dignity left in her tiny body.
