(January 14th, in a forested location of Alaska. Afternoon. Closed to Nolybab - Primrose.)
Soundless flaps slapped the incoming torrents of air whilst ebony wings sliced through like a knife through butter. Immense leathery webbing rippled as it was caressed by air, the graceful appendages offering powerful strokes every now and then. Toothless’s elongated tail swished like a paint brush on inked parchment, his newly constructed fin flaring outwards rather nicely whilst Hiccup perched atop his muscled spine. Russet hair remained tamed beneath a helmet whilst hazel eyes stared from sockets, carefully searching the surrounding area with evident interest.
“Slow here, Toothless I want to remember these,” uttered forth Hiccup who casually rose from his curled riding position. Unfurling paper, he carefully positioned it so the wind didn’t scatter his documents; he could feel the dragon shifting to a slower speed beneath him and adjusted accordingly. Eyeing his compass, he angled his thumb towards the west-point, tracing the distinct carving of Corona as he advanced farther north-east. These locations, previously unfamiliar were now forming into his mind as landmarks and he noted them with nods to himself. These details were essential, he had flown directly west to see the queen and never had the time to adventure deeper into unexplored land.
A gust of colder wind peppered through his mask and Toothless shuddered which caused Hiccup to sputter, nearly casting his papers to the abyss below. Surprise was etched atop a concealed face and Hiccup quickly stashed the map and lowered his eyes towards the land below. It was vast with trees, a push of breath billowed from his and Toothless’s mouths. Blinking in pure surprise, he could see white further into the land and Toothless gargled out discomfort.
“Right… You hate the cold, don’t cha boy?” pressed Hiccup with sympathy in his voice. Toothless growled a bit, and Hiccup could feel the scaled flesh atop his friend pulling taut from the contact with the cold air. “Wow but… Look, there’s snow!” Hiccup indicated with a point of his finger and Toothless altered his eyes towards where the white was plentiful whilst uttering a “ooohh” sound. There was a break in the trees and a blotch of red stole Hiccup’s gaze, the chief immediately lowering his eyes towards the massive streak amongst the greenery. Squinting, he tried to make out the shape, leaning into Toothless silently so he could lower his ebony form closer. Gasping abruptly, Hiccup realized the hulking form.
“A goregutter!” he informed Toothless, slapping at the Night Fury’s face in excitement and urgently directing him downwards, “It must be lost we need to check this out, come on buddy,” and with that sentence Toothless nodded, his wings flexing whilst the curved down, still displeased at the temperature. The creature appeared to be within a glade, a clearing from the trees and he was unsure why it was there. Touching down onto the colder grass, Toothless huffed out a shiver while Hiccup hurriedly tried unbuckling from the saddle. Forgetting to unclasp his prosthetic, he nearly face planted, his leg hitching upwards whilst he unhooked himself. Breath pulled from his lips and he yanked his helmet to free disheveled strands of brown.
Hiccup cleared his throat, green gaze wide with wonder as he observed the Goregutter, palms outstretched calmly. It was clear he was younger but his size was immense and colors a brilliant cherry hue. “Hey there… Want some rocks? We’re friends don’t worry…. Don’t worry,” soft, gentle voice was husky and oddly alluring whilst he edged closer, Toothless hung back curiously watching with his ear-appendages perked with interest.
