Maid Marian

overall history • Despite being born to privilege, and living in the lap of luxury from birth, Marian has always been a caring soul, seeing it as a noble's duty to care for those less fortunate than themselves. She spent much of her early life in Nottingham Castle, where she first met Robin Hood. Although initially startled to see the thief, she soon became infatuated with him. Subsequent meetings with him saw her infatuation blossom into love, and often dreamed of him when he was away.

Later in her life, she was summoned to London by her uncle, King Richard, where she took a more active role in courtly life and furthered her education. But her heart still yearned for Robin, and she looked forward to the day when she could see him again. Her chance came when Richard left to go on a crusade, and shortly after, she returned to Nottingham after Richard's brother John usurped the throne and declared himself king.

Worrying that Robin may have forgotten about her, she decided to present a kiss to the winner of an archery contest Prince John was holding, knowing how skilled an archer Robin was. However, unbeknownst to her, John and the Sheriff of Nottingham were using the contest as a trap for Robin, and he fell for it, finding himself under arrest and sentenced to execution despite her pleas for mercy. But, thanks to Little John's timely intervention, Robin escaped, and she fled with him to Sherwood Forest, willing to live the life of an outlaw if it meant being with her beloved thief.

She came close to losing him again when he snuck into Nottingham Castle to free the peasants imprisoned by Prince John, and relieve the tyrant of his precious gold, but he once again escaped, and King Richard's timely return to England put an end to Prince John's tyranny, and saw an end to the Sheriff of Nottingham's corrupt tenure as well. Marian received Richard's permission to wed Robin, and the two became husband and wife.

When the war broke out, Marian joined Robin in organizing the Gilded Wings, even going so far as to request Nottingham as a fiefdom for herself from Richard. Though surprised by the request, Richard soon agreed when she explained how she could return Nottingham to its former prosperity. Under her gentle hand, the township began to recover, and thrive, and she and Robin used the castle as an occasional base of operations while establishing the Gilded Wings. She has also began to learn swordplay from Robin, and the finer points of archery, just in case she should find herself in danger.
