(January 13, mid-afternoon - Just inside the Outlands, but very close to the Pridelands, open to either/both factions!)
While still completely foreign, at the very least the newest lands seemed reminiscent of home. If even drier and more barren than anything he had ever known, even if his home before the cliff had seemed desolate to a joey dreaming of the world. He knew better now, of course. He had to be happy with what he had, and take advantage of any food or hiding place he could find. It felt strange to be again in such a barren and lifeless landscape after his time spent on the grassy cliffside with plenty of food. That had been an adjustment at first, too, but now Perry just wanted to go back there. Mainly because this whole place was unfamiliar, which meant it was probably dangerous, which meant his survival chances were far more limited than he would like. And he would have liked those chances to be very high. Which they would have been higher if Kylie was still around. Of course, her absence was exactly why he was out here, and why he was not going back until he found her.
"Its not so bad," he muttered quietly to himself, a habit picked up when he was anxious. Which, admittedly, was most of the time. Nose twitching slightly, Perry rose his head to look around, ears rising and swiveling to listen. His eyesight was not so great, and being out in the daytime made it that much more unpleasant on his eyes. However, he could see the immediate landscape well enough to get an idea. Barren, stretching forever, a surprising abundance of thorns and....grass? Eyes squinting slightly, he bounded a few steps forward, before rising up on his hind legs to get a better view. It sure seemed...green.
Taking the opportunity to scan the area again, sensitive ears listening out for danger, he opted to leave the shelter of the thorn patch to investigate. "Maybe Kylie's around here, and she can fly us home soon. Its n-not too different from home...not so bad..." Shaking his head firmly, Perry gathered up the courage to slip out into the open, bounding along toward the more alive looking area drawing closer with each bound. The grass and plant life seemed to start out sparse from what he could decipher, but up ahead it seemed to get a lot more abundant. Maybe? This place seemed more devoid of food than even his old range, and honestly, he was willing enough to test out his theory at least in the hopes of some nice fruit. Then he could dig himself a burrow, gather a collection to last him, and wait out till Kylie found him. Her eyesight was far better than his anyway.
As Perry bounded across a clearing, however, sensitive ears twitched as he picked up a noise above him. In a strange combination, his blood chilled as hope simultaneously built up within him. On the one paw, it could be Kylie....on the other, it was definitely some kind of bird, and he was not unfamiliar with the fact that some birds would definitely see him as prey. Just a little, blue-grey marsupial morsel. Ears flattening at the thought, he rose his eyes warily toward the sky, only to see a moving shape diving straight toward him. "Not Kylie! Definitely not!"
Without waiting to see whether or not this bird was friendly all the same, considering it seemed about ready to eat him, Perry began his mad dash across the open clearing toward the next thorn patch. The grasslands were getting far closer now as he darted away from the bird, but he was not thinking of that. Instead, his little paws pounded as he ran, before he bunched well-formed hindlegs and sprung into the thorn bush. There, he maneuvered his way deeper despite the tugging and scratching, before burrowing himself into the sand. He would have stilled were he not trembling with his heart pounding in his chest. Swallowing dryly, amber eyes blinked out through the thorns to watch the bird land. He could not identify it, but it was no albatross, and he was no fish. Well, looked like he was hiding here after all. Despite himself, a slight whispered mantra picked up beneath his breath as he watched the avian. "Don't eat me, Don't eat me, Don't eat me."
