She doesn't follow the rules; she makes them. The woman is strong-willed, no-nonsense, and not afraid to take charge. Her spirit is firey, and always high -- her wits are quick, and she is very clever. She has little time to feel sorry for herself, which tends to make her come off as stubborn or even harsh to others. She will put up walls in order to protect those she loves, concealing herself emotionally and cutting off ties when she feels she has been wronged. She feels it is her responsibility to be strong for others who cannot, and second chances are rare to give. But Imelda is truly very vulnerable; she too loves to sing and dance, especially with her husband. She just doesn't let those feelings show. If you mess with her family, you will get a shoe to the face. the history overall history • Imelda was just 18 years old when she married the love of her life, Hector Rivera. A year later she gave birth to her daughter, Coco. Their little home was filled with music and laughter, and they would sing, and dance, and count their blessings. But it didn't stay this way. Hector had a dream to travel and perform for the world. Imelda wanted to stay in Santa Cecilia; put down roots, and find a more stable way to provide for their daughter. But Hector couldn't stand still. And one day, he left to tour the world with his childhood friend, Ernesto... and never came back. Imelda quickly took action. There was no time to mourn the loss of her marriage -- she had more important matters to focus on! After banishing all music from her household, and subsequently her life, she set to work learning how to make shoes. Business quickly picked up, and once Coco was of age, she taught her how to make shoes. And then Coco taught her husband... And then they taught their children... And business thrived.... Until one day, Imelda suddenly passed away. This came as a shock to the Riveras -- Imelda was the first of them to go. Without someone to lead them, how would they continue? Coco assumed her role as the leader of their business, instilling many of her mother's values and practices in her own daughter, Emilia. When Imelda awoke, she found herself in the Land of the Dead, greeted almost immediately by a large alebrije. The afterlife had welcomed her, and now, she had very little to do. One by one her family began to filter in, and she took it upon herself to re-establish her position as their matriarch. She was also met with a face she hadn't seen in many, many years: Hector. But all of his advances were rebuffed. That is, until the day Miguel accidentally found himself over the bridge in a quest to find his great-great-grandfather. What had started as him evading his family quickly turned into him... evading his family. He had requested Imelda's blessing to get back into the Land of the Living, but did not want to comply to her conditions that he could not play music. Even after explaining her reasoning to him for the ban, he was resistant -- and his wild goose chase culminated in rescuing both him and Hector from a sinkhole in the middle of town. It was then Miguel exposed Ernesto de La Cruz as Hector's murderer, first to Imelda, and then the world. Imelda was still harboring anger towards Hector -- she could not forgive him for leaving their family, but he was quickly being forgotten, and he deserved to have a chance of being remembered. Through much action and a live performance from her (something she hadn't given in years), Miguel was able to stir up the memory of his great-great-grandfather in Coco's mind. And the following year, he was back on the Riveras' ofrenda. But then, something strange happened. The worlds merged, and the Land of the Dead was quickly becoming The Land of the Living AND the Dead. Imelda also found, by way of Hector, that she was able to "switch" between being a human and a skeleton -- she could switch to having skin, and communicate with other, living people. Yet there was trouble brewing. News of war reached the corner of their world, and Santa Cecelia was growing scared that their resources would be siphoned or swallowed by the Thorns. Hector, wanting a chance to redeem himself and protect his family, left for war. Imelda was insistent that he did not, but his mind was made up. She saddled up Pepita, and followed right after him. the role player alias • Inky age • 22 pronouns • she/her other characters • Georgette, Honey Lemon, Beshte, Scamp, Bambi, Naveen |
