When in combat, she wears armor she crafted herself that includes a mask that conceals most of her face. the personality overall personality • Her twenty years away from society affected Valka, whether she wanted to admit it or not. She can be distrusting of humans to a degree, tending to lean more toward the company of animals and dragons, but has learned to open up again bit by bit since rejoining society. She has a sort of clear cut view of people. Most, she believes, aren't capable of change readily. Some are just born different, she believes, like herself and Hiccup. She does possess a powerful love to those she holds close to her, though. Be they dragon or human, she will fiercely protect and love them as she needs to. Deep down, Valka is a free spirit. She doesn't necessarily like being held down in a specific role and has a bit of wanderlust deep within her. As a mother, she has a deep level of care for those younger than her and takes a sort of advisor role when it comes to those who need it. the history overall history • Valka was born and raised in Berk like any other resident of the tiny island. Unlike the others who lived there, though, Valka never could claim to be as afraid of the dragons. More than anything, she held a sort of fascination for them. It was something that set her apart from the others and left her as sort of an outcast for a time. That never really got Valka down for too long, though, and she devoted herself less to learning to fight and more to trying to study dragons. Her chances were few and far between, but she did try. When they grew older, one particular young man did draw her attention. That, of course, was the son of the chief; Stoick. They couldn't have been more different, and Valka wasn't even sure if he would be interested in someone like her. Still, she did make efforts now and again to try and speak with him. To her surprise, it turned out that Stoick was interested in her too. He considered her a sort of unapproachable Viking woman at first and had needed to be pushed to even make the first move. Eventually, she and Stoick started to spend more and more time together and developed feelings for one another. It was after Stoick crafted a song for her that he proposed, and Valka gratefully accepted. They were wed, and after a few years together they were blessed by the birth of a son. That, of course, was Hiccup. Hiccup was born early, though, and Valka feared that he wouldn't survive as a result. Against all odds, though, he did. But the peace wasn't to last. Because Valka wanted to understand the dragons, she was intent on trying to make the others understand them too. Her efforts often fell on deaf ears, though. What she didn't expect was for Stoick to take an interest in dragons himself. He would spend late nights going on about trying to find something known as the Hidden World, and although Valka was glad he had taken an interest in that much... she did worry that he was only interested in finding it to try and eradicate the dragons. There was hope, though. That much was something Valka felt certain of. One night, when Hiccup was still a baby, a dragon raid occurred. This was normal enough, but Valka found herself once again in the fray of trying to keep her fellow Vikings from hurting the creatures. While she was trying to do that, a particular Stormcutter dragon caught her eye. He was making his way toward the house she and Stoick shared, and a primal urge to protect arose within Valka. She couldn't let that dragon hurt her baby! So, with a fierce desire to protect, Valka brandished a weapon and ran to try and save Hiccup. What she saw when she did get inside the house was, instead of the Stormcutter attacking Hiccup, the sight of the large dragon just looking on in interest. In turn, the wee babe was equally interested in the dragon. The sight was mesmerizing to Valka. Could it be that Hiccup was similar to her? And could it have been that she was right, and that dragons weren't the monsters they were made out to be? Eventually, Stoick arrived on the scene. Everything after that happened in a blur. Valka found herself snatched up by the Stormcutter after the dragon accidentally cut poor little Hiccup's face with his wing claw, and in a flash she was whisked away. Fear gripped her very being as she was carried away. She only could call out helplessly to her husband as she was flown away. This was it, she thought. She was going to be proven wrong and killed by this Stormcutter. Further and further she was taken from Berk, and eventually she was taken to an unknown place. Valka couldn't say where it was. She only knew she was somewhere new and still alive because she awoke in the strange Stormcutter's home. He hadn't wanted to kill her. No, to Valka's surprise, the Stormcutter had taken her away because he wanted to protect her. She realized that he must have viewed Stoick as a threat and wanted to take her away because of it. Well... while she was relieved that she was alive, Valka also was distraught by the knowledge that she'd never see Stoick or Hiccup again. They would surely have thought her dead, and with no way to track the Stormcutter? There was no way to get to her. This was the start of a new life for her. It was after a fair amount of time spent grieving for her old life that Valka started to live with the dragon who had taken her. He wasn't terrible at all, and he even started to help her get food and taught her how to handle herself. She named him Cloudjumper and her wish to understand dragons better was inevitably made to come true. She grew into a survivor, capable of living among dragons and helping Cloudjumper to rescue dragons in need. Eventually, she grew to be the sort of leader of a large band of dragons. The true leader as the Bewilderbeast that came to live with them, but the dragons looked up to her. Twenty years passed, and over the years Valka grew to care more and more for dragons. She started to believe over the years that Hiccup and Stoick were undoubtedly better off without her. They didn't need her, and she insisted that she was happy with the lot in life she'd been granted. However, one fateful day led to her meeting her long lost son. She and Cloudjumper came across him when he was alone and venting in the sky while atop a Night Fury. She and Cloudjumper brought the two of them to their home, and Valka realized quickly who he was. Her long lost son was practically dropped into her lap. Not without a story of Drago coming to capture dragons and start a war, but Valka was glad to have her son back. ...Soon, she also had Stoick back as well. It was something that Valka never would have expected, especially after learning that Hiccup was indeed just like her, but she learned just how much Stoick had missed her when they were reunited. She had missed him, too, and for a time there was a quiet peace. All of that was dashed when Drago did come for them and they had to fight a war. The war was not without tragedy. Stoick died protecting Hiccup from a Bewilderbeast controlled Toothless, and while Valka was heartbroken she knew that she had to be there for her son. Eventually, the war was over and peace returned to Berk. Valka and Cloudjumper came to live in Berk, if only to help with his duties as the new chief. Then the worlds merged. Berk was granted the surprise neighbors of the Scots, and in the confusion and chaos they were sent into another war. It was only thanks to her son and the daughter of the Scots that peace was achieved again. And some time after that, Hiccup pledged himself and the loyalty of Berk to the Enchanted Suns in the midst of another war. Although Valka was shocked by the decision, she did understand why he wanted to do this. He didn't want his people to be attacked and killed by the worse of two enemies, that being the Cursed Thorns, and thought that it was better to be prepared than to not. So, willing to join Hiccup and support him, Valka and Cloudjumper followed his lead. There was a comforting presence amongst the Suns, too. That, of course, was Fergus. He was no Stoick, but Valka couldn't help feeling at least a little glad to have him there to help Hiccup. Of course, her free spiritedness made it difficult for her to want to stay with the rigidity of the Enchanted Suns. She's willing to stay with Hiccup, and equally willing to support him, but wonders if there's a better option out there. the Role play sample NA the role player alias • Corgi age • 27 pronouns • She/her other characters • Light Fury, Tiana, Fuli, Balto, Helga Sinclair, Rebecca, Varian, Bonnie, Nia, Orchid, Kopa, Mozenrath, Rita, Su Wu, Banzai, Red |
