She has eyes of a vivid yellow, a short tail of straggly black fur, and darker markings on her coat. the personality overall personality • Undisputedly the brains of the hyena trio; Shenzi is a sharp-witted individual with a cruel sense of humour. An assertive figure amongst her own kind, she nonetheless knows how to take orders when need be. She is loyal to those who have earned her respect – such people are, however, few and far between – and will typically remain so unless she feels they’re not returning the favour; first and foremost, however, the hyena looks out for the interests of her clan above anyone else. Maybe not the bravest individual, though Shenzi would argue that any apparent ‘cowardice’ on her part is simply her knowing better than to involve herself in a fight she can’t win. When push comes to shove, she is a fierce and capable fighter in her own right, though not a complete match for a full-grown lion. Shenzi also enjoys cracking witty remarks, either to taunt weaker prey or just to be a shit-disturber in general; however she has very little patience for when her comrades dissolve into bickering amongst themselves. the history overall history •Born into the role of up-and-coming matriarch of the hyena clan who called the elephant graveyard their territory, Shenzi quickly learnt how to survive on very little; food was not plentiful as the current lion king, a particularly pushy kitty named Ahadi, imposed strict laws enforcing the hyenas’ boundaries. From a young age, Shenzi and her pair of paw-picked companions – two males, Banzai and Ed – began to practice the art of sneaking into the Pride Lands to take food that they believed was naturally theirs. With only limited success, it was true; although on one such excursion, the trio ran into the adolescent lion who would later christen himself Scar - the prince, no less. Apparently feeling similarly put-upon by his father, the feline was quick to forge an alliance between himself and the hyenas, one which Shenzi was convinced would work to mutual benefit. Time passed, and all four members of the little conspiracy grew to adulthood. Shenzi became leader of the hyena clan, while Ahadi died and his throne was passed to Scar’s elder brother, Mufasa: a generally fairer king, though he still shared his father’s views on hyenas. When Mufasa’s mate gave birth to his heir, Scar returned to the three hyenas, announcing that the time to make good on their alliance was drawing near. Although the hyenas failed miserably at their task when he delivered Mufasa’s son to them for disposing of, Scar was undeterred, outlining a second – far more daring – plan... That never got the chance to get off the ground as some pesky human stuck his nose in and overturned everything. Shenzi and her boys beat a hasty retreat to the Graveyard, while Scar and his mate were unceremoniously kicked from the pride and exiled. So much for his "grand plan". More time rolled by. Resigned to life mostly at the bottom of the food chain, just picking off the lions' scraps where they could, Shenzi's clan nonetheless grew. The matriarch birthed a litter of her own; an attempt to ensure the clan's survival into the future that backfired when every one of her cubs was male, and therefore not fit to lead - though her oldest, Janja, would certainly try, anyway. And, eventually, Scar returned to them.
