Dodger the basics Dodger• nicknames • Dodge, Dodger-Man (by Tito), ‘The Dodge’, (himself) Artful Dodger, Dodgie, Spot, Top Dog, and New York's Coolest Quadruped. age • 3 years primary standing • Guilded Wings Member, talented thief. secondary standing • Leader of his ragtag gang. faction • Guilded Wings species • Terrier Mix gender • Male sexuality • Straight the appearance origin • Oliver & Company height and weight • Knee-height to most humans. 35lbs. overall appearance • Dodger is on the small side of medium for a dog, but even-muscled with legs just a mite too long and capable to be considered toy breed. He has a brown grubby saddle-marking on his back, more faded than the russet color that masks his head from the cheeks up, including his ears. Other than that, he's mostly white, except for the cement-grey of his snout and all four paws. the personality overall personality • Dodger is streetwise, street-smart, and completely cool under pressure. Despite appearing to be uncaring, he is an incredibly quick thinker, able to assess any situation in seconds and calculate the best course of action with what he has to work with in the moment. An excellent improviser, he is prestigious at evaluating the best and worst talents and qualities in those around him, making him a skilled leader. Dodger always, always has a plan, even if it isn’t the greatest plan. He is very brave, almost recklessly so, and sometimes the schemes and operations he comes up with amount to biting off more than he can chew, but he always concocts and executes them with confidence; most of the time they’re just crazy enough to work, which add to his reputation. His natural charisma and smoothly delivered ego give him the type of character that others are drawn to. Though he always maintains a cool outward appearance, Dodger has a soft center that hides a heart of pure, undefiled loyalty. Once he decides to trust and take you into the circle of those he cares about, he will stop at nothing to keep you as safe and happy as possible. This means that he certainly isn’t above stealing, lying, and cheating from babies themselves if it benefits his gang. That isn't to say there aren't lines he won't cross, though. (Examples: stealing and tricking Oliver, but defending the same naive cat from Roscoe and DeSoto's mauling; agreeing to let Fagin hold Oliver for ransom after his pride and feelings have been wounded, but not allowing Sykes to kidnap Jenny Foxworth.) He can be instinctively protective of those smaller, weaker, or further down on their luck than himself, and doesn't take kindly to bullies, sympathizing more with the underdogs. Dodger does have a good imagination for drama, which probably helps him cook up most of his outrageous schemes. His ego helps him to execute them; in addition to acting cool all of the time, he doesn't shy away from telling a tall tale or two to increase his image. A leader has to have a formidable reputation anyway. As a side note, he is also a huge flirt. He'll pick up a pretty pooch just to show off. Ladies beware. the history overall history • As a young terrier-mix puppy, Dodger never knew his parents. All he remembers is life on the streets of the Big Apple Dodger was found as a stray by Fagin, but not before the singular dog had adopted his own way for surviving life in the big city. He was smart, learned to be charismatic, and adapted by rolling with the punches, discovering how to improvise any situation to his advantage, and memorizing the probabilities of lifestyles day-to-day in New York. He thought of this as the beat, or rhythm, of the city. When Fagin showed him kindness and befriended him, taking the puppy into his run-down boathouse home, despite not having anything for himself, Dodger became completely loyal to the broke human and dedicated himself to becoming master of the streets so that he could help the lonely man. Throughout the years, Fagin took in even more mouths to feed in the form of dogs like the electrician Chihuahua Tito, an English Bulldog with a flare for acting called Francis, a fluffy-headed Great Dane going by Einstein, and a pretty Saluki mix named Rita. They became like a family. Dodger played the part of a cool leader, keeping the peace and making the most of his comrades' talents. Unfortunately, the other thing that Fagin was great at collecting was debt. The misguided man had plenty of dreams, but when he borrowed a loan from enterprising, black market shark Sykes, the poor human was soon in way over his head. Dodger and company did everything they knew how to try and relieve the weight on their misbegotten master's shoulders, but a pack of stray dogs, no matter how bold or streetwise, can only do so much. Still, Dodger carried on without letting it bother him, cool as always. One day, while out for his usual stroll, he caught sight of a hot dog vendor he knew well, Louie, being tormented by a small, probably hungry, orange kitten. Dodger quickly picked out the various ways he could turn the situation to his own advantage and tricked the stray kid into helping him steal Louie's hot dogs for lunch, dazzling the feline with his charm and impressing the impressionable with his city-beat philosophy. Of course, he immediately tried to ditch the kitten and hog the food for himself afterwards, but was surprised to find that the determined, brave cat was scrappier than he'd bargained for and followed him all the way home. He arrived at precisely the wrong time; Mr. Sykes and his two mean, cruel, vicious Doberman Pinschers, Roscoe and DeSoto, were also paying a visit to the panicked Mr. Fagin. While their master pleaded and negotiated with his debtor, his pets were left to endure the intimidation and rudeness of the two Dobermans. Dodger was excellent at keeping the situation level...until DeSoto, the more aggressive of the two, found the kitten in hiding. Once again, the little guy surprised Dodger with his bravery and slashed the bully across the nose. Instead of leaving the kitten to fend for himself, Dodger led the gang to his defense and adopted the kid into his gang, showing the orange youngster not only the ropes of the streets, but the love even such a strange, mixed-up, hardened group could have for each other in tough times. Unfortunately, Sykes had only given Fagin three days to pay off his debt. Knowing this, Dodger had to speed up Oliver's training as a street-smart thief. The ambitious, artful Dodger tried to orchestrate the theft of a limo as it cruised through the streets, having Einstein startle the driver into believing he'd hit the dramatic Francis so that Tito could climb into the cab and hotwire it. He and Rita controlled the crowd, leaving the kitten in the care of Tito. The plan went awry when Tito somehow goofed up the electricity and set the car to honking and blaring way, getting himself zapped out the window in the process and ruining the whole plan. Dodger and the rest of the gang caught up to him only to find that the kitten was still in the retreating limo! Loyal to their own, Dodger and Tito trailed the car back to it's owner's home, surprised to find it a stately mansion near the park. Convinced that their newest, cutest member was in danger, Dodger led the gang in a gutsy break-in into the house to rescue the kitten they thought was being tormented. They found help from Georgette, the pampered, three-time national champion show poodle who lived in the same home. She led the dogs right to the kitten, who was wearing a collar, snuggled up in a bed when they found him. Seeing that he wasn't in any real danger, Rita had Dodger hesitating until Winston, the family butler and the same driver they had bamboozled earlier, nearly caught them. Dodger made the decision to continue with the plan, snatching the kitty away and back to their boathouse home. Instead of celebrating their victory, however, Dodger was stunned and instantly wounded to find that his new little buddy, the kitten, was horrified to be home. Instead, he wanted to go back to the rich people's house. Dodger felt betrayed and snubbed. The kitten didn't want to live with them, mix with the riffraff, now that he had had a taste of a cushy home life? He didn't care enough about them to brave the discomforts of their lifestyle? He didn't want to be apart of the family? What he did not know was that the kitten had been discovered in the limousine by a little girl named Jenny Foxworth, lonely and missing her wealthy parents who were always away on business. She had adopted, cared for, and loved the little cat as her very best friend, naming him Oliver. It was everything the stray kid had ever wanted in his short life, but now he was being forced to choose between her and the kind, bedraggled group who had taken him in when he had nothing. Before any action could be taken, Fagin returned home. Desperate, he noticed Oliver's new pet tags and decided, recognizing the wealthy address, to try to bribe the cat's new owners, holding what he believed to be their new prize pet for a silly ransom to pay his own debts. Dodger, embittered against the kid he had grown so fond of, and believing that Oliver wanted this outcome anyway, was completely on board with the plan. He went with Fagin to propose the plan to Sykes on the eve of their deadline, only to receive a fierce beating from the business shark's Dobermans, Roscoe and DeSoto, before Fagin could convince the villain that the idea would work. Technically this was true. Moments later, Jenny showed up at the docks, armed with her piggy bank and Georgette, desperate to find her beloved kitty. Realizing how wrong it was to be doing such a thing to an innocent little girl, Fagin kindly handed an overjoyed Oliver over. Unfortunately, Sykes saw the whole thing and decided that kidnapping Jenny herself for ransom was a much better method of getting back his money. He snatched the girl before anyone could make a move to help her. Dodger wasn't having any of it. He had seen how much Oliver loved Jenny, and how loyal the girl was to him. He knew what that kind of loyalty meant. He rallied the gang and Oliver and went to her rescue, leading to a daring plan, which led to an even more daring chase down the rails of the New York subway. Dodger was almost killed by DeSoto and Roscoe as he came to Oliver's defense on the back of Sykes' speeding limo, but the kitten turned the situation around and distracted one of the huge dogs, instead saving Dodger. In the meantime, Jenny managed to leap to Fagin and she, Oliver and Dodger escaped on the homeless man's beaten-up shopping buggy just in time; Sykes and his Dobermans appeared to meet a grisly demise in a collision with an oncoming tram. Oliver survived his injuries, and Dodger, still nurturing his admiration and love for the little guy, realized that his gang, his family, his circle of loved ones, included Jenny Foxworth, and even Georgette and Winston. He went on to live his artful street life with his gang, occasionally visiting Oliver in his uptown home. Then Rita disappeared. Dodger immediately followed, no matter the merging of the worlds, only to discover that she had joined with a new kind of gang...they called themselves ‘Gilded Wings’ and said they fought for the weak during the war. Dodger would’ve been jealously angry at Rita for ditching her real family, but he liked the Gilded Wings’ style. Plus, working behind the scenes in a war afforded plenty of opportunity for getting rich quick and building his rep all over the world...and if he got to keep an eye on his gang in dangerous times, hey, there you go. the role player alias • Spot age • 23 pronouns • She, her how did you find us? • MY FRIENDSSS! other characters •Simba, Tarzan, Aladdin, Lilo, Janja, Rani |
