(January 26th, evening, Open to Stitch for the first four posts and then to all!)
”Okay, Stitch,” an authoritative voice with the distinct garble of youth still sticking to the edges had the birds of the Great Forest shooting up into the air. “Here’s the mission! Step one, find the hovercraft.”
Little round feet in worn blue sandals flapped against the leaf mold. Lilo didn’t even look at where she was going, used to pushing dense tropical foliage out of her way every morning on the way to hula class. Her black hair swished as she looked over her shoulder to make sure her best friend was listening.
“Step two,” the Hawaiian clambered over a root that arched nearly to her chin. “Ergh—sneak out of the woods without anybody seeing us.” She remembered to lower her voice to a whisper. If any of the Enchanted Suns’ adults were like Nani, they could hear a great idea and pronounce it off-limits from miles away. She’d met a few. They were all kind of cool. Cooler than Nani, definitely, but might still mess up Lilo’s plan. People thought she was a little girl who got into trouble too easily. But Lilo knew the truth—trouble got into her, usually because her and Stitch were totally kicking patookie and taking names. So she figured sneaking away was the best option by default. It’s a defense mechanism.
“Step three,” Lilo reached into her green satchel. Even at almost eleven years old it was still nearly touching the ground from her shoulder. When would she get taller? “Find the cousins.”
Chubby brown hands lifted open a faded, huge pink scrapbook marked ‘Ohana’ and held it out a little so her blue alien could see, too. On the first page was a photo of a skinny yellow alien, another of an even thinner scarlet dragon monster, and finally one with both a burly cyborg creature and his curvy lime partner. “Sparky, Melty, Bonnie, and Clyde.”
Lilo tried not to sigh. She’d just fixed this scrapbook after Leroy ruined it, and just this morning she’d had to change around these pphotos to the same page to make their search easier. It was the same hollow feeling she’d gotten the morning after Jumba left for this war when she’d made the rounds—alone—and discovered these Experiments missing. After they’d just started to feel like a full Ohana.
Stitch must be this sad, too. After all, these were his closest relatives. It would be like if Nani disappeared. Worse, actually, because Stitch actually liked the cousins...and Lilo was pretty sure Nani disappearing would mean vacation. Anyway.
Lilo shut the scrapbook firmly and put it back in her satchel with the air of a woman on a mission. She had to make sure he didn’t get too sad—family meant nobody got left behind. “Don’t worry, Stitch.” Lilo assured him. “We’ll find them. ...Mmmaaybe they heard about the Grand Councilwoman’s mission and they got lost on the way here.” She held out both hands in a guessing shrug.
”We’ll fly over the worlds, look for anything all zappy or melted or something, and bring them back here. Then we’ll join the army and kick those Cursed Thorn bad guys right where it hurts!” Lilo declared, slapping a fist into the other hand. Then she blinked and looked around at the Great Forest owlishly. “Uh...just as ssoooon as I remember where I landed the hovercraft.”
