Open Character
Can be made for plot or pre-existing
As you may or may not have seen from my post in the plotting channel on discord, I plan on making a new Cursed Thorns character, running along the thread of reluctant bad guy (or girl.) Essentially, this character has been part of the Thorn army for a while, likely some kind of soldier - be it animal or human - and while loyal to a fault, they had niggling feelings of doubt, uncertainties about what they were doing and that it might be wrong. However, they always pushed these doubts away because they were covered up by lies, everyone always told her she was on the right side of this was, and so she let herself ignore these doubts. However, after a devastating betrayal, she finds herself unable to ignore these doubts, and starts seeing the truth for what it really is - the Cursed Thorns are terrible, and everything that they are doing is starting to feel more and more wrong as time goes on after this bombshell of truth is dropped on her. However, because she now knows after this betrayal that disloyalty to the Thorns will result in the deaths of herself and all those she cares about, she has to keep acting, pretending to be loyal, to enjoy the horrible acts she is doing. Yet the guilt is gnawing at her, because now it is more than just ignoring doubts, but being entirely aware that she is holding her own life above others. Yet she can't seem to help it.
Of course, there will likely be more to it than that, and the species, show/movie etc are all yet to be sorted out, but that is where the wanted part of this add falls in. This is just my character! I would love to be able to see the whole betrayal thing played out via RP, and of course this can be done through threads dated in the past, or we can start from before the whole betrayal business and see it all play out! Either way, this probably requires an active RPer, because there will likely be quite a few threads between these guys. Now, this can be done one of two ways (though I am of course open to other options). Remember, these characters can be made for this plot, or already exist if you have someone you think would fit!
Option One - Thorn: The betrayer character can be any species from any show/movie, and they are a loyal member of the Thorn army. Someone cruel and manipulative, able to convince doubters easily that they are following the right path when in fact they are not. It would make most sense if they had the power (somehow) to boss a soldier around, and that power would hopefully make them threatening enough to scare my character into staying beneath their command (thus if possible a high rank would be awesome, but definitely not a necessity, we can plot out why my character is so loyal strictly to them). If we go this route, then my character was/is incredibly loyal to them specifically, perhaps alarmingly so, maybe caring for them as well to make it easier to ignore their faults. They feed my character rather convincing lies to convince her that they are on the good side of the war and even if their actions seem bad, it is what is necessary for the greater good. My girl may be naive before the betrayal, but she is a talented warrior, and she is not dumb, so your Thorn would likely be quite good at the whole long-term lying and manipulation deal. Eventually (can be past or in future RP) this character betrays my girl's trust and loyalty, perhaps by revealing that they have been lying all along and showing that they never cared for my character where she definitely cared for them (whether they actually care or not is up to you, could make for interesting future drama if they do, or grow to later on). Despite this betrayal, my girl is still forced to serve them, and pretend that she is totally loyal to them and the cause, even though now she is growing more and more hateful of her role, knowing just how bad this army really is. The betrayal does not have to have been intentional, it could have been an accident, or them deciding that she could handle the truth, which would make my girl's hidden disloyalty and feelings of betrayal even more of a surprise when her own act slips.
Option Two - Outsider: In this option, the betrayer can be from any faction outside the Thorns, or unaffiliated entirely, so long as they have a strong hatred toward or fear of the Thorns that would make them turn on someone. This character is most likely friendly, but they don't have to be, perhaps they were merely leading her along the whole time! In this option, my girl started registering her doubts a little earlier, but she was too scared to do anything about it, so she kept excusing the doubts herself, trying to convince herself that she is on the right side, putting her in a similar position to the start of option one. However, with this option she meets someone outside of the Thorn army, and she becomes attached to them, perhaps even falls for them. When she is not on duty she would sneak out to see them, and whether or not the other character actually does or is faking it, she fully believes they care about her too. Eventually, as her doubts continue to grow despite her still trying to deny them, she decides to confess her situation to this new outsider friend in the hopes that they can give her advice, or perhaps act as an escape route, depending on the situation. However, to her surprise, no matter what their current relationship is like, be it romantic or platonic, upon hearing that she is a Cursed Thorn her outside friend turns on her. This character's hatred or fear of the Thorn's is so strong, that they decide to abandon her. Maybe they are just that angry/scared by the idea that whatever attachment they feel pales in comparison and they leave her even if it hurts them too, or perhaps finding out she is a Thorn makes them think she has been lying to them, or maybe even they never cared for her to begin with and were just stringing along so the second they find out she is a Thorn they decide she is not worth the effort anymore. Either way, not only is my girl heart broken by this, but the fact that someone who she fully believed cared for her would abandon her because of her alignment opens her eyes, and she starts seeing how bad the Thorn's really are. Yet, like option one, its a choice of live and fake loyalty, or leave and die.
If you have another idea, feel free to throw it at me as well! I'm open to plotting it out, and a lot of this is free choice, with only really the switch from loyal soldier to reluctant but trapped due to a betrayal that opens her eyes to the truth being set in stone elements. They can be of any faction or any rank, so long as the plot still works and makes sense. As stated before, I would love to see this played out, either as threads dated pre-roleplay, or playing the whole plot out IC, so be ready for that! Whatever happens after the betrayal point is up in the air, but I'd love to see the plot continue between the characters to a further point. Perhaps if we go the Thorn route, they find out my girl is faking her loyalties. Or no matter what route, perhaps they come to care for her, or they worm their way back in somehow. Feel free to post here, PM me on my OOC account or DM me on discord if you are interested! I am easiest to reach via DM on discord so that is definitely preferable is possible. If there is more than one interested party, then I am happy to try and collaborate and expand the plot to include more roles some how. A lot of this is going to include plotting and planning at first, but I am really excited to see it kick into action!
