KARL the basics full name • Karl Katz nicknames • None although people have referred to him as 'that weird guy with a creepy cockroach for a best friend.' age • 3 years primary standing • Weapons Designer/Arms Dealer secondary standing • Bounty Hunter/Master Tactician faction • Currently unaffiliated (will likely join the Thorns in rp) species • A fanaloka gender • Male (he/him/his) sexuality • Pansexual the appearance origin • All Hail King Julien height and weight • 2 ft 5 lbs overall appearance • Karl has a short, brown colored coat, with dark black horizontal stripes running from his head to his tail, where the stripes are horizontal, wrapping around his bushy tail. Karl also has black spots running along his back and he has red-orange catlike eyes; which seemingly glow against the darkness. Further he speaks in a sophisticated British accent. And as for clothing he tends to wear things that are both practical and comfortable. the personality overall personality • For all his faults, Karl is a very intelligent, sophisticated individual. He is a self-proclaimed evil genius; one that is also articulate and eloquent. As such he is very good at mental warfare and many of his evil schemes tend to be convoluted and over the top. He tends to have several backup plans just in case his original plans fail. He is able to create weapons of mass destruction and other inventions with ease due to his genius and ability to scavenge all the right parts. As a neat freak, Karl is very well-organized to the point that some may accuse him of being OCD. He likes to organize his files in order of importance and he likes to keep them color coded. Not only this but he likes to check and triple check his files at the end of each day just to make sure nobody moved them around behind his back. He likes to keep everything neat and tidy as well as easily accessible, so he knows where everything is when he needs it. As a perfectionist and control freak, Karl wants to do every little thing perfectly the first time around and complains whenever he or his minions fail to. It just drives him crazy whenever he's not in perfect control of the situation. He likes to savor the moment and expects others to savor the moment with him. Not only is Karl really intelligent, but he also has the ability to communicate with insects and is able to train them to perform various tasks for him. He tends to send out his favorite, Chauncey to go out and spy on his enemies for him. This gave him some very useful inside knowledge of the lemurs. Knowledge that he likes to use against them. After choosing a target, Karl becomes obsessed with said person up to the point of possession. He tends to set all kinds of crazy traps for his intended target and stalks them relentlessly. Prior to his retirement to the tranquil sunny beaches of Florida, Karl's primary target was King Julien, the king of the lemurs. What started their eventual rivalry was Karl's belief that Julien was a genius due to jungle rumor. Karl promptly threatened Julien telling him that there can only be one genius in Madagascar and that he is laying in bed next to him. Throughout their rivalry, Karl concocted all sorts of crazy, evil schemes in an attempt to kill Julien; all of which ended in failure for him. Still, Karl is a stubborn hardheaded individual that doesn't give up easily and went on to create even more doomsday devices to aid in his attempts. Karl, however, is not a sharer. He is so obsessed with wanting to kill Julien himself that he refuses to allow anyone else to make an attempt on the lemur king's life going so far as to outright save Julien from other enemies that also want to kill him proclaiming that Julien's fate is his alone and nobody else's! Furthermore, he speaks in a sophisticated British accent and tends to use rather ominous phrases such as, "not yet at least" and "for now." Not only does Karl have an obsession with ending Julien's life in the most violent way possible, but he is also equally obsessed with a certain hissing cockroach named, Chauncey. Only his obsession with the bug is a lot more positive than his crazed obsession with the lemur king. Karl considers the bug his best friend and as such will go through great lengths to protect him and keep him safe from harm even going so far as to cooperate with his enemies should they have his bug friend hostage. However this seems to work both ways as Chauncey is the jealous type and is just as possessive of Karl as Karl is of him. It should be of no great surprise that Karl is a very ambitious and decisive fanaloka. Unlike his older brother, Bruce, Karl wanted more from life than making coffee. He yearns to impress others with his genius intellect and wants to be known as the greatest mind in all of Madagascar. As such he is very self-conscious and insecure. He hates it when others don't take him seriously and ignore him. This makes him very defensive. Unfortunately, Karl can't take criticism too well and it shows. Because of his past, Karl takes issue of being called crazy nor does he appreciate being compared to his older brother. Further, he wants others to respect and appreciate him, longs for their approval, and to be taken seriously for the evil genius he is. While his self-confidence is high his self-esteem isn't exactly the highest. His parents in his stubborn, made-up mind will never be impressed by him and never truly accept him for the genius he believes himself to be. In fact, he thinks nothing he does will ever truly faze them. In his own words, "My parents? Ha! Please, they don't care a whit what I do. I could be bleeding green, performing evil rituals, and speaking in tongues and they wouldn't even bat an eyelash!" Further he cannot stand being compared to his more successful older brother, Bruce nor does he like his mental health being brought into question. All of this has caused Karl to have self-esteem issues. Karl is a bit of an attention-seeker. Thanks largely to being ignored by his peers; Julien in particular, Karl seeks to make up for his social exclusion by seeking attention wherever he can find it. Unfortunately, being socially excluded during his childhood and teen years made him socially awkward and a bit of an introvert. Although not to the point of having social anxiety. He's cool with having a close group of friends such as his beloved pet and minion, Chauncey, but honestly isn't so good at interacting with a whole bunch of people at once. He definitely isn't all that into parties even moreso since he doesn't dance. He prefers to hangout at the bar and drink quietly and complain about the loud, obnoxious music that's being played there. Despite his aversion to partying, Karl likes to people watch, so he will attend parties and other social gatherings to do that. What most people consider fun he doesn't believing all he needs for fun is his work. He enjoys scavenging parts and using them to build dangerous weapons and gadgets. He also enjoys coming up with evil, overly convoluted schemes. To him that is fun. Karl is the brutally honest type. He doesn't shy away from the truth and often finds pleasure in telling others how it is no matter how grim the truth may be. Sometimes he'll even just outright say something without being gentle about it. And while for the most part he is a cool, calm, and collected individual he does have a short-temper. It usually doesn't take a whole lot to make him mad and when mad he might make such threats as, "don't make me show you my true form!" Which is a bluff since he doesn't have an alternate form. He is the type that firmly believes the ends justifies the means. For example, when he teamed up with his arch-nemesis, King Julien against Koto, Karl wanted Julien to continue with their plan in blowing up the hut he was in. But because Koto had Clover, a good friend and bodyguard of Julien's in there with him, Julien refused to help Karl blow up the hut. His refusal made Karl very angry and disappointed. The fanaloka is a master manipulator. Karl is a very persuasive and talented liar! It has been said he could talk a lemur into buying fruit despite fruit being plentiful in Madagascar by simply emphasizing the fruit's deliciousness. He also has a real knack for twisting words around to make things sound a lot better than they really are. Further he is good at playing nice to others whenever the situation calls for it. As one might expect his silver tongue has gotten him both into and out of trouble. A bit careless at times: Despite all his efforts not even Karl is perfect. He truly believes he has all his bases covered and as such there is no way his past will come back to haunt him. But he's wrong. So very wrong. And sadly no amount of bribing and begging will be enough to fix this mess. Further, his tendency to use lasers in his evil schemes is what makes him accidentally predictable. If an enemy knows him well enough they will be able to prepare against Karl's deadly lasers. Additionally, Karl seems to have selective hearing causing him to either misinterpret or completely miss some things that others tell him. In fact, sometimes he seems to only hear what he wants to hear and not what he needs to hear often leading to confusion. Finally, despite all his claims of being an evil genius there is some good in him though he is much too proud to even notice it. Although, the potential for turning him good is there it still might not happen. That is unless the right person were to come along and convince him. the history overall history • As a fanaloka, Karl was born and raised on the small island of Madagascar far from civilization. He has an older brother named, Bruce who is more popular and more successful than himself whom he hates. Karl was always envious of his older brother and their parents didn't help matters by favoring their eldest. They have always supported and encouraged Bruce to do better and they gave him all the attention and respect. And even now they continue to support Bruce while willfully neglecting Karl much to his chagrin. Still over the years, Karl tried desperately to get their approval and attention. He would do all sorts of crazy things in an attempt to impress them, but sadly nothing worked. No matter how hard he tried he just couldn't seem to get their approval. Eventually though, Karl gave up trying to get their approval noting that he could be doing the evilest thing ever and they wouldn't even bat an eyelash! Additionally, his neglectful parents would bring him random items as gifts as though trying to buy his love. Karl thought the whole thing rather silly, but still he accepted the items often putting them to good use. Karl's parents made coffee for a living and much to their delight their eldest followed in their footsteps and went into the family business while Karl longed for more. He didn't want to spend the rest of his life making coffee. Instead he wanted to make weapons. So that's what he did. Throughout his childhood and teen years he would spend every free moment he had locked inside his room making weapons and gadgets. He didn't exactly fit in school either mainly because he was the only fanaloka while his classmates were all lemurs. It was there in high school that he met Julien for the very first time. Hoping to befriend the young prince, Karl made an effort only to be ignored multiple times and rejected. Feeling dejected, Karl ran off to be alone and gather his thoughts. While ranting on about how Julien kept ignoring him, he met his first real friend, a hissing cockroach named, Chauncey and the two have been best friends and partners in crime ever since. Naturally everybody thought their friendship weird, but Karl was just happy to have made a friend even if he was just a roach. Several years pass and Karl now a young adult has turned crazy going so far as to refer to himself as an evil genius. He vows to gain the respect and admiration of others and to at long last be taken seriously by everyone around him. After leaving home taking his beloved pet with him he discovered a crashed zeppelin in the middle of the jungle in which he moved in. He fashioned the fallen zeppelin into his secret lair outfitting the outside of it with deadly booby traps to keep trespassers out. It was only after hearing rumors about how his former classmate, Julien, now king of the lemurs single-handedly defeated the fossa that their rivalry truly began. Some of those rumors claimed Julien was some sort of super genius and Karl made the mistake in believing them. And because of this Karl views King Julien as a possible rival/threat and as such declared that he would kill Julien; his delusional mind thinking that doing so would earn him the respect and admiration of his family. The devious fanaloka made several attempts on Julien's life only to be foiled by Julien's friends. So Karl slyly sent his loyal pet cockroach out to spy on the group to gather inside information on them. Information that he could use against them. He cleverly uses this newfound information to help him capture Clover, King Julien's bodyguard and later he captured Maurice, the lemur king's adviser. That night the devious fanaloka showed up in Julien's bed again demanding he stop sending others after him and to come to his lair himself. Julien does so taking poor Mort along to trigger Karl's traps. Back in his lair, Karl informs his prisoners that Julien is coming and that he's going to lose. Julien soon arrives and triggering one of Karl's traps lands inside Karl's zeppelin. There Karl reveals his plan to Julien: to raise his zeppelin high into the sky and take over Madagascar. While ranting about how nobody ever takes him seriously, Julien manages to sneak away and free his friends. Outside the zeppelin, Karl confronts the group. Armed with his favorite laser gun, Karl aims it at the group, but before he can pull the trigger a balloon carrying a bunch of rocks with the lemurs wishes written on them falls from the sky landing directly on the ill-prepared fanaloka enabling Julien and company to escape with their lives. Karl was literally defeated deus ex machina that day. But somehow he managed to survive and soon after coming to he began work on his next evil master plan. He started off by reading the wishes the lemurs had made in order to get ideas for his next scheme. That gave him his next big idea to impersonate, Frank, the lemurs' sky god. He created a robotic suit designed to look like Frank and to give him certain abilities to help him trick the lemurs into thinking him the real Frank. His plan was simple enough really. He wanted to get Julien's fellow lemurs to sacrifice Julien by throwing him into a volcano. Let's just say that didn't work out so well either and Karl was forced to retreat at the end. Next he tried to get everyone so addicted to coffee that they would choose coffee over Julien. This plan was also foiled despite going very well for him at the beginning. In the end, he even found himself at the other end of his own laser gun. Luckily for him though, Julien had already used it to vaporize his family's coffee fields. He informed Julien that the bad thing about his otherwise brilliant weapon is that it takes several minutes to recharge; which enabled himself and Chauncey to escape in his hot air balloon. Following that, Karl had a few more schemes. All of them foiled at the end. At one point he even started working for the foosa hunting down chickens for them to eat. Karl informed Julien after Julien accused him of being a sell-out for working for the foosa, that he took up chicken hunting and various other odd jobs to help him fund his evil schemes claiming that being Julien's arch-nemesis isn't cheap. That he isn't ashamed and even enjoys the work. At yet another point, Karl even saved Julien from an old flame that tried to kill Julien during their school's reunion declaring that Julien's fate belongs to him and nobody's else. Julien's old flame tried to get some foosa to eat Julien out of revenge for having been stood up by Julien years ago on prom night, but Karl was able to save Julien by scaring the foosa away with his laser. Some time later the mountain lemurs came and started attacking everybody eventually making their way to King Julien's kingdom led by their fearless war leader, Koto. Koto who was ruthless and war hungry was easily able to steal Julien's throne and kingdom from him. Karl who was monitoring the jungle's goingsons with the help of his roaches knew of Koto's invasion and usurpation. Already he was ready to offer his assistance to King Julien in getting his kingdom and throne back from Koto because Karl only wants to kill Julien as a king and not as a dethroned one. However, much to Karl's frustration, Julien had escaped with some of his friends thus putting Karl's plans on hold. Luckily, Karl was able to track him down later at a foosa gladiator pit. There, Karl confronted Julien and offered his assistance in getting his throne back. After convincing Julien, Karl informed the group of his plans of regaining Julien's throne. The plan was pretty straightforward. Unfortunately that plan failed due to Koto being onto them. Koto had brought Clover into a hut with him that Karl planned on blowing up with dynamite. But Julien after seeing Clover inside refused to go on with the plan much to Karl's annoyance. Still, true to form Karl had another plan up his sleeve. Unfortunately it too was botched; this time due to Julien failing to assassinate Koto with Karl's laser gun; which of course led to their capture. After narrowly escaping execution thanks to Clover and Sage freeing them, Karl threatened to decimate the mountain lemur army with a powerful space laser he named, the Karl Star. Frustratingly, Julien messed this plan up too by carelessly pushing the self-destruct button causing Karl's Karl Star to explode. Luckily for them groups of Julien's allies showed up with their own armies causing an all out war to break out between Julien's allies and the mountain lemurs. In the end, Koto was defeated and Julien got his throne and crown back. While the lemurs celebrated their victory, Karl snuck away back to his zeppelin to start working on his next plan. However, some time later growing tired of his life in Madagascar decided to retire to Florida with Chauncey. But he wanted to find a successor first; someone to replace him as King Julien's arch-nemesis. So he held a little contest to find a worthy successor. After Julien and Clover win the contest, Karl tried one last time to destroy the lemur kingdom by blowing it up using his deadly Karl Star. Unfortunately for Karl, Julien anticipated this and had the lemurs reflect Karl's space laser back onto itself destroying it using mirrors. Disappointed, Karl demanded to know how Julien predicted him to which Julien simply responded that he caught onto Karl's love and obsession with lasers calling him a laser guy. Annoyed, Karl could do nothing more than hop into his hot air balloon with Chauncey and fly away to Florida. Once in Florida, Karl set up base on an abandoned beach far from the noisy humans. He just wanted some peace and quiet and to get away from it all and relax. Sadly for the fanaloka his peaceful retirement didn't last long for the war came. First Karl noticed strange geographical shifts occurring at ridiculous rates of speed and so he sent out his number one bug spy, Chauncey to investigate the strange occurrences. The brave, loyal insect returned some time later with surprising news of invaders led by a wicked and powerful fairy. Karl though who was a bit of a skeptic didn't believe in real magic, so wasn't entirely sure what to make of his bug spy's description. Was it possible Chauncey made a mistake? But no, Chauncey didn't make mistakes. He was efficient. Regardless, if there really were invaders headed their way: magical or not they needed to be prepared for their arrival. The news of incoming invaders prompted the fanaloka to booby trap their new home with deadly traps that he was only all too excited to test out on a live subject. And what better way to test them out on unwelcomed guests. Afterwards. Karl and Chauncey continued to get the lay of the land and amidst all their recon and spying, the two learned that the pirates led by the evil wingless fairy witnessed by Chauncey were more than just invaders; that there was a whole war going on between two main sides known as the Enchanted Suns and the Cursed Thorns. The fanaloka wasn't yet sure what this war has to do with the strange geographical shifts, but Karl was excited to find out. In the meantime, the shrewd fanaloka knew that war is potentially very profitable for someone without morals; someone like him. Case in point, the fanaloka decided to remain neutral for as long as he can while selling weapons to both sides of the conflict for steady profit. A risky move to be sure, but Karl was willing to take the chance. Besides, building weapons and the like isn't cheap and he could really use the money. Additionally, Karl wasn't above capturing Wanted persons of interest for money as a freelance bounty hunter. Karl dared anyone to try to talk ethics to him. the Role play sample One day when Karl and Chauncey were just minding their own business enjoying their retirement from evil doing on the sunny beaches of Florida they noticed that the world around them began to change and shift. Such extreme and rapid environmental changes naturally confused Karl as he realized that such changes at this rate of speed wasn't scientifically possible. It was for this reason that Karl decided to send Chauncey out to do a little investigating to find out what was going on. The brave little bug did as Karl requested and crawled off to find some answers. Chauncey crawled onto a nearby boat that was just shoving off into the ocean. Once out in the middle of the ocean, the loyal hissing cockroach went to work. After positioning himself he listened to what the sailors had to say to see if they knew anything. Naturally being a mere insect, Chauncey was practically invisible making his job of spying all the easier. After all, who in their right minds would ever suspect a hissing cockroach of doing anything even remotely suspicious and spy related? Karl knew this fact only all too well and often takes advantage of roaches being overlooked by most people; which is precisely why he often employs them as his personal spies. Alas, after only a few minutes of listening to the sailors it was clear that they too had no clue what was going on and were just as worried about the recent climate changes as Karl. Still, Chauncey was careful to stay out of sight so not to get squished by a bug hater. Just as Chauncey was settling down inside a warm corner below deck in the cabin area the ship began to sway violently back and forth. The tiny bug did his best to hang on for dear life. Then suddenly the skies darkened and the winds howled like ravenous wolves. The poor human sailors tried their best to scramble about keeping the ship under control. Little did anyone know that the storm wasn't a natural one. Following the storm, a loud, commanding voice coming from outside filled the air beckoning the sailors hiding below deck to venture outside. Chauncey wanting to see what all the commotion was about cautiously followed them. Once on deck, Chauncey found a safe place to spy. The brave insect also saw to whom the voice belonged: a tall green-skinned human woman dressed in all black with a raven on her shoulder. Accompanying this green-skinned woman was a purple-skinned octopus woman and a group of pirates led by a man with a hook for a hand. It was pretty clear to the insidious insect of who was in charge of this little operation. The green-skinned woman demanded that the sailors surrender their supplies to them or face instant death. Clearly terrified most surrendered without a hitch while a stubborn few foolishly tried to stand up to her. The result was not good. The green-skinned woman just laughed and pointed her long bony finger at the three defiant sailors. She shot a powerful bolt of lightning at the trio killing them instantly. Then the green-skinned woman shot the remaining sailors with a death glare as though daring them to try something. When they didn't the woman felt a sense of satisfaction washing over her. Chauncey who had just witnessed this whole thing and unable to control himself any longer was freaking out causing him to hiss loudly. This was of course a mistake on the small bug's part since his loud hissing alerted everyone to his presence. The hook wearing pirate captain asked one of his men: a real nervous-looking short pirate with glasses to go investigate. The short pirate did so prompting Chauncey to hide even further into his hiding spot. Sadly though the short bespectacled pirate discovered Chauncey and called out to his captain to alert him of the discovery. "Oh captain it is nothing to worry about. It's just a bug," Mr. Smee called out. Unfortunately, that was all needed to be said for the large raven to take interest. Before his master could say anything, he flew off his shoulder and made a beeline for the large cornered roach. Hissing even more, Chauncey retreated. Now that he was on the ground he was in danger of not only being devoured by a stupid bird, but stomped on by lots of roach hating humans. The speedy roach dodged the pirates' feet while dodging the hungry bird. Taking this as his cue to leave, the bug ended up jumping off the ship and into the water. Luckily he was able to catch a ride upon a fish's back. Back on the ship Mr. Smee informed Hook of the bug's escape. "Oh sorry my captain, but the insect seems to have escaped. Should we pursue it?" to which Hook and the other pirates just laughed. "No! Of course not! Don't be stupid! It's just a bug! Who cares if it gets away! One less insect to deal with. Good riddance I say! Probably drowned in the ocean anyway."Captain Hook very confidently assured Smee sorely underestimating the escaped insect just as Karl predicted people would. Maleficent, however, wasn't so easily fooled. There was definitely something...off about that bug. It was just too...smart to be a normal bug. Her pet raven who had been hovering anxiously over the ocean's water searching desperately for the escaped bug soon gave up and flew back to his master's shoulder. Maleficent stroked her beloved pet; the only living creature that she seemed to genuinely care about other than herself. Chauncey managed to return safely to shore and it quickly scurried over to his home with Karl to inform his master of what he just witnessed. Karl who was inside spotted his beloved pet on his security feed. He switched off the traps allowing Chauncey safe passage inside. But as soon as the bug got inside, the fanaloka switched the traps back on. Chauncey then crawled up his master and got onto his paw. "Chauncey, where have you been? I was worried sick about you," Karl asked. Chauncey excitedly informed Karl of everything he had just seen leaving the fanaloka dumbfounded. Karl honestly wasn't sure what to make of this new information. He may have exploited people such as his former arch-nemesis, King Julien's beliefs in things like magic and gods, but he never actually believed in those kinds of things himself. He tried his best not to laugh. Chauncey much like himself was a proud being. Still, Karl wondered if Chauncey might have made an honest mistake or had just been imagining things. Hey, it was bound to happen sooner or later. But no, Chauncey didn't make mistakes. He was too efficient. Karl may not have entirely believed in Chauncey's claims, but Karl was aware enough to realize that Chauncey did in fact see something. What that something was, Karl didn't yet know, but he couldn't wait to find out and see it for himself. "Excellent work Chauncey. You just earned yourself your favorite treat for this," Karl told the excitable bug. True to his word, Karl presented the hissing cockroach with a plate full of fresh vegetables. The bug let out a happy hiss and dove right into the food. "Chauncey, I don't fully understand what you saw, but we need answers. Tomorrow, we're going to take a good look around this place and see if we can't find any clues to your...pirates and...magic wielding green woman," Karl informed the bug who in turn felt insulted at his master for not believing him. Hissing loudly Chauncey jumped up and down to show his displeasure. "Now Chauncey, just calm down. I didn't say I didn't believe you. It's just that...magic is kind of a difficult concept for me to...believe in. Back on Madagascar we were surrounded by crazies that believed in silly make believe things like magic and gods, so can you really blame me for being a bit skeptical?" To this Chauncey responded by running angrily in circles hissing. "Okay, alright already. If I give you the benefit of a doubt will you promise to calm down?" "Alright, good. We'll check out the rest of this place tomorrow and see if we can't find this...magical green mystery lady of yours," Karl assured the roach who had calmed down a bit. the role player alias • Mordo age • 32 pronouns • Female (she/her/hers) how did you find us? • Under the Top 100 Disney roleplay site web page other characters • None yet! |
