It was a job he was good at, both due to his enthusiasm for the hunt, and his aggression when hunting. When not on the trail, he was content to laze around on Slade's property. His life remained much the same until the day Amos brought a new dog, a pup about the same as Chief had been when he'd been bought by Slade, home to be trained as a hunting dog. Chief was less than enthused, especially when Slade made the pup his responsibility from then on. However, despite his initial distaste, it wasn't long before he warmed up the pup, whom Slade named Copper. Not long afterward, Amos and Chief both were frustrated by the frequent forays onto their property by a fox who had been recently adopted by their only close neighbor, an elderly woman named Widow Tweed. Amos was convinced the fox was after his chickens, while Chief simply saw prey. But, try as they might, the fox remained elusive. However, the fox was all but forgotten when they made ready to go on their winter hunting trip into the wilderness, which would be Copper's first. While at first the pup was mainly a burden, as he grew, he learned steadily, and it wasn't long before he more than earned his keep, much to Chief's displeasure as he saw himself being surpassed and displaced. Sight-hound that he was, he simply couldn't compete with Copper's sense of smell. By the time they were ready to end their trip and return home, Chief was in a foul temper for the whole trip, despite Amos assuring him he was just as valued in the hunter's eyes as Copper was. While he remained in a bad temper, it soon became clear that, despite his mood, there wasn't any true strain on his relationship with Copper. Unfortunately, before they could really get settled back in, the same fox dropped by, and accidentally woke Chief up. it wasn't long before Amos was awoken in turn, and set his dogs on the fox. In the ensuing chase, Chief was close to running the fox down when he chased the fox across a railroad bridge. A train arrived at just the wrong time, and the old dog was struck and sent tumbling down into the ravine below. While he suffered no injury worse than a broken leg, Amos and Copper both were sent into a vengeful, murderous rage, swearing to hunt the fox down no matter where he was, even if it meant sneaking onto a wildlife preserve. Since he was still recovering, Chief missed out on that particular hunt, and subsequent fight with an angry bear, and was relieved when he learned that Slade, injured in the encounter, was otherwise alright. He also refused at first to believe the fox had actually saved Amos and Copper from the bear, but Copper stuck to his tale, and in the end the old dog had to admit that Copper was no liar. Things then settled down for a time, until Copper up and wandered off again amidst rumors of something strange happening in the world. Chief, still feeling responsible for the younger dog, set off after him not long after. if trouble truly was brewing, then he was determined to be there to see Copper safely through it. the Role play sample Nope. the role player alias • Kosmo age • 34 pronouns • Male how did you find us? • Plague other characters • Mufasa, Fergus, Tramp, Jumba, Scar, Coachman, Ed, Sabor, Pitch Black, Hurken, Maid Marian, Gideon Grey, Jenna, Sitron, Hades, Kale |
