Her eyes are very soft and brown. Though they have faded, and fur has regrown there, there are faint scars on her left cheek from rescuing Tarzan from Sabor when Tarzan was a baby. the personality overall personality • Warm and motherly would be the best initial words to describe Kala. She is also very brave, as her decision to rescue Tarzan as a baby proves, and she is notably stubborn when it comes to what she believes is right. She's patient, calm, and wise in ways others might not initially expect from her. Though her heart still has the ache of losing her and Kerchak's biological son, she is open to the idea of welcoming others into her life. Especially if they cannot fend for themselves. the history overall history • Her origins weren't anything that special. Kala was born as any typical gorilla was, and as she grew she learned to care for those around her. Her troop was home - it was family- but the day eventually came when she decided to emigrate with a few of her fellow ladies. On her journey, she eventually encountered a particularly eye-catching male called Kerchak. He was strong, of course, but there was more to him than just his strength. Kala quickly grew to respect that he valued his family, those traveling with him, and established that she wanted to join him. In time, this led to her being the levelheaded voice he needed as he led the family onward. It also led to her developing feelings for him. Falling in love was inevitable, she supposed. He completed her. In time, this too led to her giving birth to a healthy baby boy. Her life was complete, she thought. She had a troop of gorillas who cared for one another, a loving and dependable mate, and on top of that a beautiful little baby. Where it all came crashing down, though, was when that baby decided to wander one night. The screams... they were screams that Kala was sure she would never escape. Coupled with the ferocious roars of one infamous leopardess, that night would be one that haunted Kala for many days to come. She and Kerchak rushed to save their child, her hoping that she could do something, but by the time they made their way there it already was too late. Her son was dead, and she couldn't do anything to change that. The grief that followed was almost more than Kala could bear. If she had just done something differently, she kept telling herself, then maybe he would still be alive. Was she a bad mother, she would wonder as the days passed. Was it just not meant to be? Those thoughts coupled with her grief led to her lingering behind more and more as the family traveled. She often heard whispers from the others who wondered if she would just follow her baby's footsteps, but she tried to pay them no mind. If she acknowledged them, Kala feared that the path would be one she set herself on. She didn't want to have Kerchak endure a second loss. He already worked as hard as he did to protect the family following their son's death, and yet... she couldn't keep herself from lagging behind. One day, she heard something. A cry in the wilderness. At first, Kala wondered if she imagined it. No one else had seemed to pay it any mind. There was something different about this cry, though. She had to follow it. Doing so was dangerous, she realized, but her heart guided her through the jungle and toward a strange structure in the trees. Seeing it made her think of turning back. It wasn't animal in nature. Still, that cry she heard had to have reached her for a reason. Kala couldn't imagine a baby crying that way if they had a family to care for them, so... she pressed on. What she found was a scene of bloodshed and loss. Paw prints caked in red, bodies of being she didn't recognize reeking of death, it was almost enough to make her leave. The only thing that kept her there was the crying she heard. Following it, she discovered something that made her heart skip a beat. A small, hairless creature no older than the baby she and Kerchak had lost. Kala didn't necessarily believe in something as grand as destiny, but... in those first few moments she got to know the hairless baby she felt something. Her motherly instincts took hold. Kala could not let this baby meet the same fate her son had. He already had lost who she assumed were his parents. Leaving him there to die would have been far too cruel. He needed her. It was no great surprise, then, that she would do everything in her power to keep Sabor from killing him when she realized the leopardess was still there. The task was one Kala would not soon forget, but eventually she made her escape with the baby in tow. Then, and only then, did she make her way back to the troop. Her fellow gorillas were all relieved to see her alive and well, even Kerchak, but the hitch in the plan was presenting her newly adopted son to them. Tarzan, as she called him, was not readily accepted by Kerchak. She knew by then how he felt about outsiders. In this one instance, though, she had hoped he would understand enough to let the boy stay. He wanted her to take him back, and this fact shook Kala to her core. Couldn't he see that this boy had come to them for a reason? Her stubbornness took hold again, and she argued to let Tarzan stay. Finally, it was agreed. The only condition was that Kerchak would not accept Tarzan as his son. She watched Tarzan grow, and every step of the way she was there to guide and nurture him. Kerchak was right about one thing. Tarzan was no replacement for their lost son. That didn't make Kala love Tarzan any less, though. He was her son as far as she was concerned. He did make mistakes. What growing boy didn't? However, one such mistake was almost getting someone killed in an elephant stampede. She had to stop Kerchak from putting his foot down in the face of that. Tarzan hadn't meant for it to happen, it was an accident. And of course, she was there to further support Tarzan and show him he was as much a part of the family as any other. So as the years passed and Tarzan grew, Kala could only feel pride in her son. She felt further pride with every day he grew to keep up with them and developed ways to help them out. Everything changed again, though, when a foreign noise filled the air. This time, Kala was not one to want to follow it. She trusted Kerchak's judgment that this outside noise was dangerous, but could not stop Tarzan from following it himself. The creatures the sound came from turned out to be like Tarzan, and Kala knew Tarzan would want to find out more. She couldn't do anything to stop it outside of watching him sneak off to do so. Then, one day, Tarzan brought the humans into their midst. Kala was, of course, terrified. She didn't know what could happen. These humans weren't like her son, at least at first glance. Two of them, a lady and who Kala guessed was somehow connected to him, seemed to mean no harm. When Kerchak burst onto the scene, though, things quickly fell apart. One of the humans had a weapon, Kerchak went to fight, and Kala could only watch in horror as her son turned against her mate. This wasn't what she had wanted, but her heart was aching all over again as she watched everything unfold. Luckily, Tarzan came to his senses and stopped before he seriously hurt Kerchak. That didn't prevent Tarzan fleeing the scene afterward, though. Kala knew then that, for all her stubbornness, she had led this to happen. She also had to show Tarzan something important. She led him to the treehouse where she found him, and though her heart was full of sorrow she knew she had to offer Tarzan a choice. He either could accept that he was human and leave the gorillas to go with the outsiders, or he could stay. She hated that Tarzan had to make this choice. He would always be in her heart, as she knew, but that didn't make the pain any less noticeable when he made his choice. He chose to go with the humans. There were many tears shed that night as she hugged Tarzan and told him how much she loved him. She thought that she would never see him again, and when they parted ways she returned to Kerchak and the others without a word. The tears lingering on her face told a story, though. Then, all at once, humans swarmed their nesting grounds. Kala did what she could to protect the youngest of their troop, but ultimately was captured with everyone else. To her surprise, though, Tarzan returned to save them. Her heart swelled with pride and love anew, but the night was not over. While Tarzan and his real human friends fought to protect them, Kerchak was wounded. She didn't know what happened to Clayton, nor did she care to ask, for she wanted to stay by Kerchak's side. She loved him. She always had and always would, and with a heavy heart she watched as her mate accepted Tarzan as the new leader. She was sure she would lose Kerchak that night, but... that loss never came. As it turned out, the wound he had received was not as fatal as she thought it was. There was a chance to save him by taking Kerchak to a place of healing they had heard of. The Tree of Life, it was called. Though Kala did want to go with him, she knew she couldn't. Tarzan might need her guidance as he led the family. So, she could only watch as Kerchak was taken on the manmade 'stretcher' on his long journey. Kala gave Tarzan her full support as he continued to lead the family, and she acted as something of a matriarch through the many endeavors they went through. Then, one day, a strange occurrence came. The worlds meshed together and, as Kala later found out, this was to Tarzan's benefit. He acted as a hero and saved the life of a lion who was betrayed by his younger brother. This led to them teetering on the edge of war. However, Kala was not one to want to participate in such a thing. She was no fierce warrior... not like Kerchak. Besides, the family needed her. So, she gave Tarzan her blessing to help the Enchanted Suns and stayed behind to protect the family as best she could. Her staying behind also allowed her to be reunited with Kerchak. When he returned home, Kala was the first to greet him and fill him in on what he had missed. She had missed her mate more than words could describe, and was fully in agreement with his next course of action. The family would be staying out of the war. Kala would be there to support Kerchak's decisions in the days to come, but also would be there for Tarzan should he ever need her. the Role play sample NOPE. the role player alias • Corgi age • 28 pronouns • She/her other characters • Light Fury, Tiana, Balto, Helga Sinclair, Rebecca, Varian, Bonnie, Nia, Orchid, Kopa, Mozenrath, Rita, Banzai, Red, Chuluun, Kijana, Bolt, Koda, Collette |
