(Open to Kopa, Kiara, Kion and their dad. Set AFTER the events of: We Are Like the Earth and Sky, The Art of Welcoming, What Have I Told You About Them?, So Is it Time?, and Guess We All Are Born With Parts to Play. Reminder that Simba believes only Kion has visited the Pridelands briefly.)
"This...was our home."
Simba's face was melancholy pride. Regret in the pointed brows, resignation in the downward-curving lips, anger in the clenched jaw. He kept his head lifted, a King who would not show shame for his kingdom.
That kingdom stretched before the Crown Prince under a little rise where the ground lifted, like a peninsula jutting into the sea of thorns. Thorns, which ran rampant over the Pridelands he surveyed. They not only choked the grasslands he'd loved as a cub, but barred entry to the groves and muddied watering holes, throttling scrub bushes and trees that used to add color to the savanna. A harsh wind was blowing above their barbs, feathering Simba's red mane.
He'd have to get his cubs through those thorns. To Pride Rock. Home.
Simba pulled his gaze away from the blackened landscape. His chin jutted out under a reluctant smile, seeing all three of his and Nala's children clustered beside him.
Kopa, with his coolly colored eyes, budding mane any prince would be proud of. Sweet, gentle, and Simba sort of wanted to carry him over the thorns.
Kiara and her sunset fur, a mix of his adventurousness and Nala's intuition. Perfect future Princess, if she could remember to do as she was told. It was odd, but she wasn't looking, to Simba, as surprised to see the Pridelands' state for the first time. Maybe she was even stronger than Nala always proclaimed her to be?
And Kion. Simba wanted to show all three of his children the Pridelands, but it was Kion who made it urgent. He knew that his golden middle child had already been here once before. And met Rani, the new cub in their midst from across Africa.
Mufasa had had to practically hold the angry father down to keep him from berating Kion, hearing about that little encounter for the first time.
But now Simba could lead the future Queen, tenderhearted boy, and eventual leader of the Lion Guard down to the Rock he'd had his Prince lessons on so long ago. Show them the lair there. Tell Kion, with his siblings as witness, that he had a new destiny in the Circle of Life.
"I know. It's awful. But we're going to Pride Rock. There's...something there I want to show you." The fire-gaze lingered on Kion. "You ready?"
