(Open to Sarabi for grammy and me times. Takes place POST "What Have I Told You About Them?")
Golden paws trotted through the short grass, head held high. The sun dappled on her pelt through the trees, warming her in small bursts. There was a chill under the trees, something she didn't care for but the little dapples of sunlight helped make her feel like she was walking under the sun. Like she was walking in the pridelands again. Her ears rotated from side to side. She was listening. Listening and waiting.
Her mind was clouded with two things. One, she was hungry and didn't feel like eating that weird meat that the humans put together. It had a weird funny taste to it and she only got a little bit. So she was out hunting. She would take a mouse or a squirrel or even a rabbit if she could make sure it wasn't Bambi's friend Thumper, his wife or their many children. She enjoyed the taste of rabbit but she had to be very very careful.
The other thing on her mind was Kovu. The young, dark furred, green eyed cub she'd met a day or two ago. He was on her mind constantly. He was dorky and funny and tried to play at being royalty. But not like Kion did it, he thought he was entitled to something. What that something was, she couldn't tell but she liked his brave bravado. He also made her tummy flutter like Zazu's wings which was very weird. Till then only GENO had made her feel that way.
A rustle of sticks broke her train of thought. Remembering her mother and her grandmother's lessons, Kiara pressed her body down low to the ground, tail straight behind her and lifted off the ground. Her eyes narrowed, lip raised. She spotted a field mouse cleaning itself on a log. "The mighty huntress has spotted her prey," she purred.
She slid forward and lept upwards. But the mouse was onto her and ran, leaving Kiara to smack her bottom jaw on the log. When she sat up, top jaw throbbing, she realized she'd bitten her top lip in the fall. It was bleeding, not badly, but enough for the princess to fall out of regal adult and deadly huntress, to bawling cub.
"OWWWWW!" She whined, "My mouth!" She whimpered, placing her paw to the wound and coming away with sticky blood. Unaware there was a rescuer on the way.
