When he worked at Adam's castle, he would dress in a brown coat with gold trim, and a hairpiece. Now, however, he dresses more plainly, given his job as one of the Shadowglen's Alchymists may lead to messes and he doesn't want his good clothes getting dirty. He's typically without his wig now-a-days and his hair's grown out to about his shoulders, though he usually has it tied behind his head. the personality overall personality • can be brief or ignored for canonsCogsworth at first glance comes off as overly strict and fussy. He's usually the first to enforce a rule given by the higher ups. Though, he does this not necessarily because he agrees with all the rules, but because he wants to avoid anyone getting into trouble. The man is very invested in keeping things running as drama-free as possible. As a former butler, he's also quite stringent on tidiness and order in a way that some see as nitpicky. He does, however, have a more light-hearted side to him, always quite happy to have someone to share banter with. He has somewhat of a fondness for play fights, displaying his friendship with someone by lightly roasting them, though he never means any real harm by it. Cogsworth does have an instinct as a caretaker and because of this he can come off as soft... but if you threaten those under his care, kiss your ass goodbye because this adorable little clock-man don't play. the history overall history • Cogsworth was born in England and spent most of his early childhood there. When his mother became ill and died, his father, Henry, was unable to deal with the grief in a healthy way so he moved himself and his son to France as a way of ignoring the issue. Henry would be employed at the castle that would eventually be inherited by Prince Robert, starting as a lowly servant before eventually rising the ranks to become their Head Butler and Majordomo. Young Cogsworth would spend the rest of his formative years and early adulthood with his father breathing down his neck, training him to become the head of staff in his place. This resulted in Cogsworth becoming a very anxious perfectionist. His training was interrupted for a couple years as Cogsworth was drafted into the French military. Though he is evasive when talking about his experiences, he was trained to shoot, had seen active combat and served as a medical assistant. There is a hint now and again that the supposedly soft pushover of a butler had actually killed people during his time with the military. When his father passed away when Cogsworth was twenty-three, he found the most support in the court's organist, Forte, who was always sympathetic toward tragedies. The head of staff fell into his role, although he always had a problem with the household lacking discipline and often not listening to him. One fateful Christmas night, the castle would be cursed by an Enchantress for their young Master's assholery. Even whilst assuming the form of a mantle clock, Cogsworth still did his best managing the household, even as sadness and apathy grew over the years. Spirits were lifted when a girl from the countryside, Belle, came to the castle and Beast began to feel for her. Shortly after, Belle fell in love with the Beast and the castle was lifted of the enchantment. Upon the merging of the realms and the subsequent war, Cogsworth was more or less obligated to go along with his masters in whatever they wanted to do. Given he was still head of house, he stayed with the chateau as it was donated as a fortress, even though he didn't agree with the idea. He was not trusting of the Enchanted Suns, viewing their supposed moral uprightness and "goodness" with skepticism; he knows firsthand once war is involved, there is no moral high ground and that any group claiming themselves to be more moral is probably lying. the Role play sample What is a belt made of clocks called?
