"Ah, no! Ruddiger, get off of there! Shoo."
He had to admit, so far things were looking pretty all right with his new standings. Ever since Varian and Ruddiger had shown up and Varian had shown a little of what he could do in the engineering department, he'd been granted a bit of space to work in. Naturally, the teen had set to work right away at building the beginnings of some machinery. As much as he wanted to build another automaton, it didn't feel like the right time. In its stead, Varian was working on... well, quite honestly, he didn't have an official title for it yet. The aim was to make some sort of device to launch his alchemy balls at the enemy remotely. The hardest part, honestly, was Ruddiger continually wanting to be a part of the project. Instead of leaving as he'd told him to, Ruddiger just looked up at Varian and rolled over onto his back. Varian just shook his head at that.
"Listen, you're great, Ruddiger, but I really need to get this finished. So if you don't mind," Varian said. He carefully scooped up his raccoon friend, but as he was about to put him on the floor Ruddiger decided to instead climb up on his shoulders. For a beat, Varian was surprised. He couldn't exactly fault him for that, though. So, in the end, Varian just rolled his eyes and shook his head.
"Okay, fine," Varian said. "You can stay. Just try not to get in the way anymore. I almost got this. I just... need to get the wiring right so I can connect it to the remote." That was the trickiest part, and he had a start on it, but was a bit stumped. So, after pulling his goggles down just to ensure safety, he leaned in closer to the remote he'd started to work on and looked it over. If he could get it right, they'd have a way to launch what were essentially chemical balls at their foes. The first that sprang to mind were those he made the sticking substance with. That would be a nasty surprise, he thought with a laugh. It was his own laughter that was his downfall there, though, because while Varian laughed to himself he accidentally knocked the remote off his table while trying to simultaneously pick it up and give the wiring a little zap.
"Shoot!" Varian dropped his tools and quickly scrambled to retrieve it. Ruddiger must have jumped off at that moment, too, because he suddenly felt lighter and wound up falling face first onto the ground. Brilliant.
"Okay... that was the least well executed fall I've had yet," he groaned. While still dazed, Varian looked up. Had someone come in while he was working? At that thought, he frowned. "Hello? If someone's there, could you knock next time? I'm in the middle of something."
