And, they were off!
He'd turned around to face her once he'd got a short distance away, giving her the time to respond; and, as he saw her catch on quickly, the Pegasus continued his retreat... albeit now going backwards as he continued to face her. Perhaps it was foolish, he could easily place a hoof unevenly and trip himself; but Sunray was sure-footed enough that he saw very little harm in the action. Besides, the way Orchid always seemed to light up when they played together like this... he wouldn't miss a moment of it, if he could help it.
She was gorgeous anyway, of course; but there was just such a something when she was romping carefree like this, that made her all the more special like this. A whinny of delight was uttered as the winged stallion bounded backwards, letting all thoughts of war and allegiances fall from his mind as he simply embraced the moment with his beloved Orchid.
He loved her, everything about her. Her kindness and caring. Her bravery. The way she got so into these games. The way she caught his water droplets on her horn, making them sparkle more beautifully than he imagined anyone else could. His progress halted for a moment, watching the display... and putting him perfectly in place to catch Orchid's return shower of water. Dark eyes blinked a moment as it splashed lightly across his forelegs and chest.
He hadn't been meaning to start a splash fight; but Orchid knew him too well to expect him to back down from one when it was begun. Every since he'd been a little foal, Sunray had loved getting in splash fights with his siblings; and while he'd never spring one on Orchid without her consent... he knew her well enough to know that if she willingly initiated it, she had no problem with seeing it through.
Perhaps, when they'd first started dating, he'd been a little reluctant to soak her... it had felt wrong, somehow. But the more they'd got to know each other, and he'd learned that she didn't mind a little bit of it, if it was in the name of having fun...
Well, then he had no qualms about doing this.
Prancing back another couple of steps, Sunray slammed both his front hooves down in the stream between them. The splash it created wasn't huge, by any means, not when the stream was this shallow; but it was enough to send a fairly distinct wave in her direction. Where this took them, well...
They'd see from here.
