Before he knew what happened, Ed suddenly felt himself lifted bodily off the ground as Nala swatted him away, though his jaws remained clamped tight on a hunk of her flesh. He hit the ground with a grunt and lay dazed for a moment from the heavy impact. As he waited for his head to clear, he idly gnawed on the hunk of flesh he'd ripped off of Nala when she knocked him away.
When at last he could think as clearly as he was capable of, he sat up, bolting down the tidbit Nala had unintentionally provided to him, then gazed at the lioness as she struggled against Nuka. The younger lion's laughter proved to be infectious, and Ed joined in with his own crazed cackling as he prowled forward again, one eye on Nala, the other on Nuka as he gazed at the pair of lions.
He desired to finish what he'd begun, but instinct warned him away from approaching a lion and its prey too closely on his own, even one such as Nuka, especially since Nala seemed more akin to prey than an enemy at the moment. Her struggles were growing ever weaker as Nuka held her tight by her neck, and before long, she'd gone limp. He traced his long tongue slowly along his bloody teeth as he watched the drama unfolding before him, and a savage glee at seeing one of the hated Pridelander lions dying before him filled his entire being.
"Heh-heh-heh-heh-heh...hyeh-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha...hyeh-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!" the increasingly loud burst of laughter erupted from within him as he fully realized that Nala was done for, Simba's darling mate, dead, lying in her own blood. As he laughed, he joined in Nuka's merrriment, prancing somewhat awkwardly around as he reveled in the young lion's success, and his own. As Nuka turned to leave, Ed eyed Nala's fallen body, contemplating whether or not to feast on her flesh. But, it seemed Nuka had another idea, and Ed stepped back when the young lion prowled to Nala's side, and raked his claws over the side of her face.
He gazed at Nuka's handirowk with approval, then, after a momentary pause of hesitation, he padded along after Nuka, a crazed cacophony of malicious laughter escaping him, loudly declaring his mirth to all who could hear as, victorious, he left Nala's bloody, limp body behind. As he departed, he drew even with Nuka, though his head was held low in subservience, and he offered the young lion a look of bloody-minded approval, and a broad, blood-stained grin.
They'd made a surprisingly effective team, and like Shenzi had said, for the time being it was good for the hyenas to fight for Scar in this war. It it meant more dead Pridelanders, all the better. As he ran his tongue along his bloody teeth again, he decided he could definitely get used to eating lion flesh. It'd be enough of a reward for his efforts, as far as he was concerned.
